Redditors Share Their Favorite Quotes
Welcome back to the Arrive on University Blog. As we approach a new season, it’s a great idea to reflect on things that inspire you! This month, we’re focusing on inspirational quotes. If you don’t already know, Reddit is a website where people can post content such as links, text posts, and images, which people can comment and vote on. The more popular the comments in the post, the more points they receive. We found a great Reddit thread about the best quotes . Here are a few of our favorites from the many that were shared: "Give me 6 hours to chop a tree, I will spend the first 4 sharpening my axe ." — Abe Lincoln While there are plenty who argue if this is actually a quote from a former president of the United States of America, we love the line regardless. Our interpretation: time taken to prepare for a task is better than rushing forward while ill-prepared. Sharpening the axe, in this case, allows for the holder to spend less time swinging it. A life proverb? We think so. “If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love. So if you love a flower, let it be. Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation.” Osho Many people think that they’ll find love outside of themselves, that love from someone or something can fill the voids or cracks in their lives. We often place love on a pedestal as something we can grab and hold onto. We search for it because of gaps that seem to be missing from our lives. Our interpretation of Osho’s quote is that love must be cultivated from within. It’s the desire to give, not to take. It’s selfless. It’s fulfilling. “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” — John A. Shedd Our interpretation: If you’ve got an idea, go for it. Also, encourage someone to step outside their comfort zone, even if it’s frightening (which it probably will be). What inspires you inside and outside of your apartment in Dallas, TX? Share in the comments below so we can all feel inspired. You can also share your own interpretations of the above quotes, should you feel inspired to do so. Thanks for reading!
